Specifications

Hello, fellow engineers and specialists in 3D modeling and additive manufacturing. Today, we focus our attention on an industrial and educational workhorse – the Felix Tec 4 Dual. This model is the result of years of refinement by FelixPrinters (based in the Netherlands). Unlike its sleeker sibling, the Pro 2, the Tec 4 Dual retains the open-frame, modular, and highly accessible architecture characteristic of the Tec series. Let's analyze its technical components and structural specifications in detail.

  • Hotend: The printer is equipped with dual all-metal hotends capable of reaching a maximum operating temperature of 275°C.

Calibration

The Felix Tec 4 Dual requires hands-on attention to bed geometry and slicer settings. Because the two nozzles are fixed at the same height next to each other, height calibration and bed leveling are critical to preventing the idle nozzle from damaging the active print layers.

  • Cleaning the bed and preparing the Kapton surface:
  • Procedure: Before starting any print, wait for the heated bed to cool below 30°C.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Nozzle dragging by the passive tool: Because both nozzles sit at the same height, the idle nozzle hangs over the printed object. If the printed layers swell slightly (due to over-extrusion), the idle nozzle will scrape against them. This causes noise, surface scarring, and can knock the print off the bed.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • STEM education and student training: The open-frame design allows students to directly observe the belts, pulleys, linear guides, and extruders in action. The mechanics are highly resilient.
  • Complex geometries with PVA support: Printing PLA with PVA supports for engineering models like pumps, custom manifolds, and interlocking joints.
