Specifications

Welcome, fellow engineers and additive manufacturing pioneers. Today, we take an in-depth look at the Felix Pro 2 Dual, a high-end desktop 3D printer designed and manufactured by the Dutch company FelixPrinters. This printer represents a significant evolutionary step in the professional and hobbyist FDM sector, offering a unique balance between precision mechanics and innovative hardware features tailored for dual-material printing. Let's break down its technical specifications and understand the engineering principles behind its architecture.

  • Hotend: The Felix Pro 2 Dual is equipped with dual all-metal hotends capable of reaching a maximum operating temperature of 275°C.

Calibration

Achieving perfect results with the Felix Pro 2 Dual requires strict adherence to calibration procedures. Due to the physics of dual extrusion and the mechanical forces of a moving bed, fine-tuning the geometry is critical to the success and structural integrity of your prints.

  • Cleaning the bed and preparing the surface (IPA wash):
  • Procedure: Before starting a print, wait for the bed to cool down to room temperature.

Common defects

  • Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
  • Pivoting mechanism wear (Tilting Play): Over time, the linkage system that tilts the hotends can develop play. The symptom is a Z-offset discrepancy when switching tools, causing the newly activated nozzle to start its layer either too low (scraping the print) or too high (causing adhesion failure). Solution: Periodically tighten the pivot bolts and replace the brass bushings once worn.

What it is used for

Best use-cases:

  • Complex geometries with PVA support: The printer excels at print-in-place mechanisms, enclosed gear assemblies, and architectural models with complex overhangs, thanks to the tilting hotend which prevents the passive nozzle from dragging.
