Calibration

  • Establish the machine as a ceramic extrusion system before touching slicer settings.

Action: Confirm that the printer is loaded with clay-compatible material, that the nozzle installed matches the intended bead size, and that the printer is configured for DIW-style output rather than FDM-style filament extrusion. Verify that the build surface is the printer’s intended board surface and not a heated PEI plate or textured plastic bed.

Common defects

  • Motor power-off / Z-axis drop after printing: Community testing reported that the original Potter used M84 to power off XYZ motors at the end of a print, which could allow the extruder to fall if the Z axis lost holding torque. The reported fix was a firmware update that keeps the Z axis powered on after printing, or an end G-code workaround that disables X, Y, and E while preserving Z.
