The BQ Hephestos 2 is a second-generation DIY 3D printer kit produced by the Spanish technology company BQ, based on the classic RepRap Prusa i3 architecture. This revision represents a significant step forward from hobbyist acrylic builds toward a semi-professional industrial design, replacing acrylic and 3D-printed joints with a robust, powder-coated steel and aluminum frame.

Calibration

To ensure the BQ Hephestos 2 operates with optimal quality, follow these 8 calibration steps:

• Z-Probe Offset Calibration: Because the bed is glass, the inductive sensor measures the metal plate underneath it. You must manually define the offset distance between the sensor's trigger point and the nozzle tip.
• Expected result: Consistent first-layer height across print starts.
• Tip: Navigate to the `Leveling` menu on the LCD screen.

Common defects

• Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
• Hotend Heater Cable Fatigue: Due to constant movement along the X-axis, the extruder cable harness flexes repeatedly in a single location. Over time, the copper wires inside can break, causing a "Err: MINTEMP" error or sudden heater failure. Solution: Replace the wiring harness with flexible silicone-insulated wires and install a longer cable sleeve to distribute stress.
