SLM (Selective Laser Melting) is technically identical to DMLS: fiber laser melts metal powder in inert atmosphere. SLM is the Fraunhofer ILT / SLM Solutions term; DMLS is EOS's trademark. Physically, the same process.

In practice: same process. The DMLS-vs-SLM dissertation is academic. This book treats them in parallel. SLM is the more accurate name because the powder is fully melted, not merely sintered.
