DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering)

metal version of SLS. fiber laser melts metal powder in inert chamber. titanium, stainless, cobalt-chrome.

DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering) is metal powder bed fusion: fiber laser (1064 nm) melts metal powder in an inert atmosphere (Ar or N₂). The term "sintering" is historical: it is actually full melt. Synonyms: LPBF, SLM. ISO/ASTM 52900 → PBF.

DMLS produces functional metal parts at 99.5%+ density with properties close to wrought metal. Standard for aerospace (GE LEAP fuel nozzles), medical implants (titanium), tooling (conformal cooling), automotive (Bugatti brake calipers).
