Specifications

The HP Jet Fusion 580 is an industrial-grade 3D printing system running on HP's proprietary Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technology. Unlike desktop FDM extrusion systems or SLA photo-polymerization systems, MJF utilizes a powder-bed system where liquid agents (fusing, detailing, and color agents) are deposited onto a bed of plastic powder. Powerful infrared lamps then sweep over the print bed, selectively melting the plastic particles where the fusing agent was applied. The Jet Fusion 580 features full-color (CMYK) printing capabilities at the voxel level within an "all-in-one" machine layout.

Calibration

Calibrating the HP Jet Fusion 580 is required to maintain dimensional tolerances, mechanical strength, and color accuracy. Follow these ten calibration steps:

• Fusing Lamp Calibration:

Ensure the printer runs the latest firmware (minimum BD9). Place the metal calibration tray onto the build unit platform and slide it into the printer. Navigate via the front panel to: Maintenance > Calibrate fusing lamps with calibration tray > Adjust calibration tray offset.

Common defects

• Hardware defects and mechanical weaknesses
• Printhead Nozzle Clogging: Fine polyamide powder can settle on the printhead nozzle plates and mix with the liquid agents, forming crusts.
• Symptoms: White streaks on printed parts, color dropouts, structural brittleness.
• Remedy: Manually clean the printheads using HP cleaning wipes and solvent. Replace the printhead if clogs persist.
