Technology and Energy Source

The Arcam EBM Spectra L uses Electron Beam Melting with a 4.5 kW electron gun at an accelerating voltage of 60 kV. The increased power (vs. Q20plus) delivers 20% higher build speeds: a full-height 430 mm build completes approximately 4.5 hours faster than on the Q20plus.

Point Melt Technology

Like the Spectra H, the Spectra L uses Point Melt (point-by-point irradiation) for precise thermal control: critical for complex geometries with narrow sections or thin walls.

Calibration

Calibration: Arcam EBM Spectra L

• xQam Automatic Calibration: Trigger xQam before every job. For a Ø350 mm bed, peripheral zones are more susceptible to beam aberration: xQam is mandatory, not optional. Expect < ± 0.1 mm geometric accuracy across the full diameter. Tip: if recurrent peripheral errors occur, check the Q-gun deflector for magnetic hysteresis drift.

Common Defects: Arcam EBM Spectra L

Porosity in Peripheral Parts

Symptom: higher porosity in peripheral parts (CT > 0.5%) compared to central parts. Cause: peripheral zones lose more heat on a Ø350 mm bed: lower effective bed temperature with insufficient maintenance beam power. Fix: increase maintenance beam power for peripheral zones; prioritise central positioning for critical parts.
