FormUp 350

The FormUp 350 is an SLM 3D printer from AddUp with a 350 x 350 x 350 mm build volume.

Specifications

Light Engine: 4 × 500 W full-field fiber lasers (1070 nm): each covering the full 350×350 mm build area; 2 kW total installed power. Positional accuracy ≤ 0.05 mm.

Optics / Scanner: Four independent galvanometric scanner systems; automatic calibration procedure with test plate; overlap strategy for smooth coverage between lasers.

Platform: Precision 350×350 mm build platform; bidirectional recoater blade (+40% powder spreading speed vs. unidirectional); layer thickness 20–100 µm.

Build Volume: 350 × 350 × 350 mm: optimal for aerospace and medical components of moderate size.

Calibration

Four-laser calibration: Automatic test-plate procedure after 4-hour thermal soak; ≤ 0.05 mm positional accuracy, < 1% power deviation between lasers.

Bidirectional recoater: Parallelism and speed check in both directions; streaks only in one direction = asymmetric blade wear.

AZO powder module: Level > 30%, sieving at > 400 µm agglomerates, O₂ < 500 ppm; monitor differential pressure for blockage.

Common defects

Lack-of-fusion porosity: Irregular voids 50–200 µm from low laser energy or wrong overlap parameters: correct and verify with metallographic section.

Orange peel surface: Wavy top texture from excess power or contaminated powder: reduce skin power, check powder PSD.

Warping/curl: Cooling deformation in Ti/IN718 without supports or preheating: add supports, optimise island scanning.
