PEI / Ultem

aerospace polymer. 217°C HDT, fire-retardant, biocompatible. requires a €25k+ printer.

PEI (Polyetherimide, marketed as Ultem) is an amorphous super-polymer from General Electric (1982). Standard in aerospace, medicine, semicon. Only PEEK is higher thermally in the FDM-printable family.

When fire-retardancy + heat + medical sterilizability are all required. Aerospace cabin parts, medical instruments, semiconductor cleanroom parts. Slightly less scary than PEEK (lower melt temperature).
