EBM (Electron Beam Melting)

metal PBF, but with electron beam instead of laser. vacuum, high temperature, excellent for titanium and aerospace.

EBM (Electron Beam Melting) is metal powder bed fusion with an electron beam (60–120 kV) instead of a laser. Build chamber operates under vacuum (10⁻⁴ Pa) and is preheated to 700–1100 °C: eliminating residual stress in situ.

EBM is superior for titanium and Ni-superalloys: vacuum + high preheat give (1) no oxidation, (2) minimal residual stress, (3) a coarse-grain structure similar to cast. Advantage for aerospace turbine blades and medical hip implants.
