SVG to STL: turn a logo or drawing into a 3D printable model

Upload a vector SVG file or paste SVG code and get a closed 3D model to download as STL or 3MF with a free account. You set the width and thickness, and optionally a base, a keyring loop and a different height for each color.

What SVG to STL means and what it is used for

SVG to STL is a free online tool from EduFacturing that turns a vector SVG, such as a logo, a caption or a template, into a closed 3D model for printing, downloaded as STL or 3MF with a free account. The outlines are extruded to a thickness you choose.

Before converting, the tool checks the file for five problems that come from how editors export: text that is not outlined, shapes with a stroke only, masks, an embedded raster image and embedded HTML. It runs in your browser.

SVG to STL: a 3D logo model with a keyring loop and a base

Extrudes a logo or drawing into a 3D model

SVG paths become a solid between 0.4 and 50 mm thick. The width of 5 to 300 mm applies to the outlines, so empty canvas around a logo does not change the size.

Checks the SVG file first

It spots five problems and tells you how to fix each in your editor.

A base, a keyring loop and colors

A rectangular or contour base, a keyring loop with a 4.5 mm hole at the angle you pick, and a separate height for each color. With color levels, the 3MF carries each color as its own body.

A mockup and a material estimate

A customer mockup as a 1600 × 1200 PNG and a table of material weight and cost for 1, 10 and 50 pieces.

A logo in 3D: keychains, multicolor printing, quotes

Most often it starts from a flat drawing that only needs height.

  • Keychains and logos

The logo is extruded, a keyring loop and a base are added, and the model is printed.

  • Multicolor printing

With color levels on, an SVG with several colors splits into bodies of different heights, and the 3MF carries each separately.

  • A quote for a customer

The PNG mockup and the table of material for 1, 10 and 50 pieces are ready before printing.

  • A logo from a photo

The vector SVG sent from the Remove background from a photo tool loads here directly.

How an SVG file becomes a 3D model for printing

Half a second after your last change, the model is rebuilt from the 2D outlines.

  1. Reading and scale

The paths are centered and scaled to the width you set. A path with several subpaths is split into an outer outline and inner outlines; a hole appears when the inner outline runs opposite to the outer one.

  2. Extrude and merge

The shapes are extruded to the set thickness, and the base and the loop are merged with them by Manifold, a library for boolean operations on solids that returns a closed body.

  3. Size check

A thickness or a thinnest feature under 0.8 mm gives a warning. The minimum comes from the EduFacturing FDM rules. A button thickens the outline by 0.3 mm, up to 1.5 mm.

  4. Material estimate

The volume of the body is multiplied by the density and by the price per kg. The body is counted as solid, with no infill.

The formulas in the tool
Applies toFormulaMeaning
Scales = width / outline widththe width is that of the outlines, not the canvas
Thinnest featurew = 2·A / PA is the area of the shape with its holes subtracted, P is the total perimeter of the outline and holes
Loopd = R − 1.5 = 3.5 mmR = 5 mm is the radius; the center sits d outward from the outermost point of the outline in the chosen direction
Weight and costm = V·ρ / 1000 · n; C = m / 1000 · price per kgV in mm³, ρ in g/cm³, n is the quantity; m is in g

What is different: size by the logo, an SVG check

  • Size follows the outlines

The width applies to the shapes themselves, so a logo in the corner of a big canvas comes out at the size you set. The base, the loop and the thickening are added to it.

  • A closed body

The base, the loop and the shapes are merged into one closed body by construction. The “watertight” label shows for every finished model and is not a separate check.

What it does not do

The tool reads vector SVG only: a raster image inside an SVG is skipped, text has to be outlined, and masks are ignored, so what is hidden under them appears in the model. A shape with a stroke and no fill is flagged as a problem, because the stroke width is not carried over.

It does not calculate load and does not slice the model. The material table covers only the material, counts the body as solid and uses your price per kg.

Questions about SVG to STL

How to convert SVG to STL for 3D printing?

Upload the SVG file or paste SVG code, set the width and thickness, and download the model as STL or 3MF with a free account.

How to turn a logo into a 3D model for printing?

The logo has to be a vector, in SVG. If it is a photo, the vector SVG from the Remove background from a photo tool loads here directly.

What is an SVG file for 3D printing?

An SVG is a vector picture made of paths and shapes. A raster image inside an SVG is skipped, and text has to be outlined.

Why is my text missing from the model?

Live text elements are not converted. Outline the text before exporting: Create Outlines in Illustrator, Object to Path in Inkscape or Flatten selection in Figma.

How to make a multicolor 3D print from SVG?

With at least two colors in the SVG and a different height per color turned on, the 3MF carries each color as a separate body. There are at most six levels.

What thickness should I set?

The FDM minimum is 0.8 mm. Below it a warning appears, and the thicken button adds 0.3 mm at a time, up to 1.5 mm.

Is SVG to STL free?

Yes. Without an account it opens 3 times a day, and downloading needs a free account. With one there is no limit.

The SVG to 3D model tool is free. Pro opens the rest

Pro costs 15 EUR a month and opens 45 Pro tools.
