What removing a background from an image means
To remove a background from an image is to separate the subject from its background and leave it on a transparent, coloured or different one. Remove background from EduFacturing is part of Pro and gives the result as a transparent PNG, PDF or SVG. It has three modes: “AI auto”, “By colour” and “Batch” for many photos.
“AI auto” separates the subject with a neural network, and “By colour” removes pixels close to one colour. Both run in the browser, and the photo is not uploaded.
The exception is “Studio quality (HD)”: after you confirm, the photo is encoded as JPEG and sent to the EduFacturing server. The screen says the server is in the EU, the photo is deleted at once and the limit is 3 runs a day.
Three ways to remove a background from a photo
Removes the background three ways
“AI auto” separates the subject with a neural network. “By colour” removes pixels close to one colour from the border of the photo or from an eyedropper (tolerance 0 to 150). “Batch” runs many photos through AI and returns one ZIP.
Fixes the edge by hand
A brush that erases or restores, 2 to 120 px wide, a lower and an upper threshold, edge softening from 0 to 20 px and up to 29 undo steps (fewer on large photos). Moving the thresholds resets what you drew with the brush.
Puts the subject on a new background
Background: transparent, a colour, a gradient, the blurred original or your own picture. Canvas: the original size, 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9, A4 or a custom size. Also position and scale, a shadow, a sticker outline, brightness, contrast and saturation.
Downloads a transparent PNG, PDF and SVG
The PNG is transparent or carries the background you chose. The PDF is an A4 sheet, a square or the size of the canvas. The SVG holds an embedded raster or a traced vector.
When you need a photo without its background
A subject without its background is needed wherever the photo will sit on something else.
The background of a product photo
Cut out a printed product and set it on white or a colour, on a 1:1 or 4:5 canvas. Batch runs a whole series.
A sticker from a photo
A sticker outline of 1 to 40 px; the screen recommends the vector SVG for stickers, foil and large prints.
A transparent PNG for a slide or document
A transparent PNG for a slide and an A4 PDF for a document.

The silhouette is traced as a vector and opened in the SVG to STL (logo to 3D model) tool.
How a background is removed from a photo
Everything rests on one mask: a number from 0 to 255 for each pixel that says how much of it shows.
AI mask
The photo is scaled down to 320×320 and passed through the U²-Net neural network (the u2netp variant). The output is stretched by its own minimum and maximum to 0-255 and scaled up to the size of the photo.
Colour mask
The background colour is the per-channel median of eight points: the corners and the midpoints of the sides. A pixel within the tolerance becomes 0, all others 255.
Edge
The thresholds and a box blur turn the mask into a smooth ramp. Batch skips this step.
Frame
The canvas is painted with the background, the shadow, the outline and the subject with brightness, contrast and saturation applied.

In “AI auto”, “By colour” and “Batch” the app sends the photo nowhere. HD asks for confirmation again for every new photo.
Two kinds of SVG, clearly told apart
One option wraps a PNG; the other traces contours with 16 colours. Both are explained on screen.
The “AI auto” mask is 320×320 pixels, scaled up to the photo size, so hair, fur and translucent edges come out coarser. The brush and the thresholds help; “Studio quality (HD)” promises cleaner edges and hair, but it sends the photo to a server.
“By colour” uses one colour and one tolerance, so a gradient background or a shadow is only partly removed. “Batch” uses AI alone, with no thresholds and no brush. The traced SVG has 16 colours and may lose fine detail. The tool keeps no project.
