Jigsaw puzzle generator online: photo to a puzzle for 3D print and laser

Upload a photo and choose up to 60 columns and 60 rows of pieces, a joint style, a silhouette and figurines. This jigsaw puzzle generator gives an SVG for a laser and an STL, 3MF or OBJ for a 3D printer.

Part of Pro, 15 EUR a month.

What a jigsaw puzzle generator does with your photo

A jigsaw puzzle generator cuts a photo into pieces with tabs that lock into each other. This EduFacturing tool, part of Pro, makes a puzzle from a photo online: from one and the same puzzle you get a file for a laser and a model for a 3D printer.

You choose columns and rows, each from 2 to 60, a joint style, a silhouette and figurines. You can also play it on screen: the pieces are scattered and snap together side by side.

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your photo and settings stay in it for the next visit.

What the jigsaw puzzle generator makes

Cuts a photo into pieces

From 2 to 60 columns and from 2 to 60 rows, 26 tab styles, 12 silhouettes such as a cat, a heart or a star, and 4 figurine sets cut as separate pieces. You can also use your own SVG template.

Gives a file for a laser

An SVG with a 0.1 mm cut line and a size in millimetres, from 10 to 2000 mm wide (200 mm by default). The guide photo is optional, on a separate layer. The PNG is for a preview.

Gives models for a 3D printer

STL, 3MF or OBJ with settings for the piece thickness, the clearance between pieces and the edge chamfer. The file is in photo pixels, not in millimetres.

Makes the puzzle in colours

Reduces the photo to 2 to 16 filament colours and gives a 3MF for AMS, separate files per colour in a ZIP, an OBJ with MTL or a PLY. There is also a HueForge relief up to 200 pieces.

When you need a puzzle from a photo

A puzzle from a photo is a gift, a lesson or a test for a laser and a printer.

  • Puzzle from a photo for a 3D printer

The photo becomes a puzzle printed in pieces with a clearance for assembly.

  • Puzzle for laser cutting

An SVG with cut lines and a size in millimetres for a laser or a cutting machine.

  • Game on screen

You scatter the pieces and join them with a mouse or keys; the assembly percentage is shown.

How a photo becomes pieces with tabs

The puzzle is built on a grid, and the tabs are drawn in the chosen style.

  1. Grid and seams

The photo is divided into columns and rows. Each seam between cells gets a tab, and the button beside the first section rolls a new layout.

  2. Tab style

The tab size applies to almost all styles. The neck, head, asymmetry and curvature apply only to the standard one, and the sliders with no effect on the chosen style are locked.

  3. Silhouette and figurines

A silhouette cuts the puzzle along its outline, and the figurines are separate pieces inside it.

  4. From 2D to 3D

Each piece is an outline extruded to a thickness with a bevelled edge; the clearance shrinks the piece.

The sums behind the puzzle
Applies toFormulaMeaning
Number of piecesP = C × RC is the number of columns and R the number of rows, each from 2 to 60: from 4 to 3600 pieces for a rectangular puzzle without figurines
SVG heightH = W × (h / w)W is the width you set in mm, h and w are the photo height and width in pixels
Piece clearancek = (A − c) / A, not below 0.7A is the average of the piece width and height, c is the clearance; the piece is shrunk k times on both axes (in file units, not mm)

One puzzle for a laser and for a 3D printer

  • One puzzle, two outputs

The same puzzle comes out as an SVG for a laser and as an STL, 3MF or OBJ for a printer, without drawing it twice.

  • Warns about a tight clearance

The app warns that pieces may jam when the clearance is too small. The model is in photo pixels, so shrinking it in a slicer shrinks the clearance too.

  • Locked sliders

A slider that does not change the chosen style is locked, so you do not move something with no effect.

What the jigsaw puzzle generator does not do

The photo is shrunk to 1600 pixels on the long side. The HueForge relief is switched off above 200 pieces, and the colour formats appear only with colour reduction on. The SVG has no laser beam width correction.

The size in millimetres is set only for the 2D file (SVG). STL, 3MF and OBJ are in photo pixels, and the thickness, clearance and chamfer are in the same units: shrink the model in a slicer and they shrink too. Check the size and the clearance with one test piece. The 3D Print button works from the 3D view and opens it for you.

The English screen is partly translated (about a third of the text stays in Bulgarian): the names of silhouettes, figurines and joint styles keep the Bulgarian name with an English one in brackets. The clearance is a setting, not a measured tolerance, so a fit is not guaranteed.

Questions about a puzzle from a photo and a 3D printed puzzle

How to make a jigsaw puzzle from a photo?

Upload the photo, choose columns, rows and a tab style, then download an SVG for a laser or an STL, 3MF or OBJ for a printer.

How to make a puzzle for a 3D printer?

Open the 3D view, set the thickness, clearance and chamfer, and press 3D Print. The default clearance is 0.2 in model units, that is, in photo pixels; check the size and the clearance with one test piece.

How many pieces can the puzzle have?

From 4 to 3600: columns and rows are each from 2 to 60. The default is 10 columns and 8 rows, 80 pieces.

Is the jigsaw puzzle generator screen in English?

Partly. Buttons and section titles switch to English, but the names of silhouettes, figurines and joint styles, the language button and the engine label stay in Bulgarian.

How much does the jigsaw puzzle generator cost?

It is part of Pro at 15 EUR a month, together with the other Pro tools.
