Merge and split PDF: what this tool is
This EduFacturing tool, part of Pro, lets you merge PDF without uploading the files anywhere. It also splits a file into pages, rotates and deletes pages, adds page numbers and a watermark, builds a PDF from pictures and pictures from a PDF, cleans metadata, shrinks the file, locks it with a password, removes a password and signs.
Everything happens in your browser, and no request carries the file to the site. Underneath run pdf-lib (an open-source program for reading and writing PDFs) and pdf.js (which draws the thumbnails). The site also sends the PT Sans font for Cyrillic in page numbers and the watermark.
Changes chain together: the result replaces the current file and becomes the input of the next operation.

Merges and splits PDF files
Several files merge in the order you choose. To split, pick pages by clicking the thumbnails, with a range or with the odd and even buttons, then rotate them by 90°, extract them, delete them, or split the file by page or into packs of 2.
Numbers pages, adds a watermark, cleans data
Page numbers in three formats (“p. 3 of 12”, 3 / 12 and 3), in five positions, starting from 1 or higher. A watermark with 3 to 80% opacity, single or across the whole page. Metadata (title, author, subject, keywords) can be read, edited or cleared.
Shrinks a PDF and turns it into pictures and back
Builds a PDF from JPG and PNG on A4 portrait or landscape, Letter or the exact size of the picture. Pages download as JPG or PNG at 72, 150 or 300 DPI in one ZIP. “Shrink” repacks without loss or rasterises (turns pages into pictures) at 72 to 300 DPI.
Adds a password, removes it, signs
“Lock” sets an AES-256 open password and permission flags. The password-removal section strips it if you know it. “Sign” pastes a hand-drawn signature 15 to 120 mm wide on one page or on all of them.
When you need to merge PDF files or lock one
Contracts, invoices and medical referrals carry personal data and prices, so they are best kept off a third-party server.

Delete the pages you do not need, number the rest 3 / 12, put a signature on the last one and download the file.
A password on a PDF with personal data
Clear the author and the program from the metadata, or lock the file with a password before you send it.
Shrinking a heavy scanned document
Shrink by rasterising at the DPI you choose; the screen gives a rough size estimate and says so if the file grew.
A draft with a watermark, or a picture album
Add a watermark (the default text is “DRAFT”) or build a PDF from pictures.
How merging and splitting a PDF works
A PDF is made of pages, fonts, images and drawing commands. The tool edits those parts.
Selecting pages
Clicking a thumbnail clears a typed range, and the other way round: the last action wins. “8-” means from page 8 to the end, 4-2 is read as 2-4 and an empty field means all pages.
Change
Merging copies the pages of each file into a new document. Rotation adds the angle to the one stored in the page. Numbers and the watermark are text in an embedded font.
Password protection
Locking and password removal use AES-256 per ISO 32000-2 (revision 6) through the browser’s own cryptography. Files with RC4 or AES-128 cannot be opened here.

The code makes only one data request, for the PT Sans font.
AES-256 password, and honest about permissions
The open password is real protection. The permission flags are a request to the viewer, and the screen says so.
Shrinking a PDF comes with a report
After shrinking, the screen shows how much was saved, whether the file grew and whether the text stays selectable.
The signature is drawn and pasted as an image. It is not a qualified electronic signature under Regulation 910/2014 and does not carry its weight.
A password is removed only if you know it and only for AES-256 (revision 6). There is no PDF to Word and no OCR. A rasterised PDF loses its selectable text. The other operations do not work on a locked file until the password is removed.

How to reduce PDF size?
In the “Shrink” section choose repacking with no loss, which keeps the text selectable but saves little, or rasterising, which shrinks scanned documents most but loses the selectable text.
How to split a PDF into multiple files?
Pick the pages by clicking the thumbnails or type a range like 1-3, 5, 8-, where 8- means from page 8 to the end. The file is split by page or into packs of 2.
How to password protect a PDF?
In “Lock” type a password of at least 4 characters twice, and the file is encrypted with AES-256: without it the file does not open. A password can be removed only if you know it.
How to sign a PDF?
Draw the signature with a mouse or a finger and paste it on one page or on all of them. It is an image, not a qualified electronic signature under Regulation 910/2014.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and written in your browser. The site sends only the code and the PT Sans font.
