Spinning & Stretch Forming

Metal Spinning is a highly efficient chipless forming process used to shape axially symmetric hollow parts from flat metal blanks (discs) or tubes.

Process Definition & Working Principle

Metal Spinning is a highly efficient chipless forming process used to shape axially symmetric hollow parts from flat metal blanks (discs) or tubes. The process is conducted on a specialized spinning lathe, where the blank is clamped between a rotating mandrel (chuck) and a tailstock pressure pad. As the spindle rotates, a forming roller applies localized pressure, forcing the metal to conform progressively to the mandrel's profile. Two primary variations exist:

Kinematics, Axes, & Machine Configuration

CNC machines for metal spinning and stretch forming feature specialized kinematic configurations designed to withstand high concentrated structural forces.
