The slicer is the CAM system of 3D printing. This course goes beyond default profiles and explains what each parameter actually does – so you can tune by physics, not by checklist.
What you will learn
- The logic behind layer height, line width and extrusion multiplier
- Infill geometries and their mechanical behaviour
- Support strategies – tree, organic, normal, soluble
- Retraction, coasting and wipe against stringing
- Print-speed profiles for perimeters, infill and top layers
- Adaptive layer height and variable line width
- Post-processing through G-code post-processing scripts
Course outline
- Lesson 1: What the slicer does – from STL to G-code
- Lesson 2: Layers, perimeters and top/bottom strategy
- Lesson 3: Infill – pattern, density, gradient
- Lesson 4: Supports – when, how much and how
- Lesson 5: Per-layer temperature, fan and cooling
- Lesson 6: Feature-level speed and acceleration
- Lesson 7: A profile for a functional part vs a decorative one
- Lesson 8: Final project – optimizing a real part
Prerequisites
A completed course-fdm101-basics or hands-on beginner-level slicer experience.
Outcome
You build your own slicer profiles for a specific printer and material, understand why things work, and can cut print time by 20-40 percent without losing quality.
Who it is for
Operators with a few months of experience, technical leads in service bureaus, engineers optimizing production rules, and teachers in technical programs.
