DIN rail panel for 3D printing: rail, printed adapters and an enclosure

Pick a relay, terminal block, power supply, boards and sensors, and the tool places them on a DIN rail by itself and builds the rail, printed adapters and an enclosure with a lid. Spacing between modules is checked, and the printable parts come as one STL.

DIN rail enclosure 3D print: what this tool is

This online tool from EduFacturing, part of Pro, arranges electronic components on a DIN rail and builds the printable parts around them: a rail, adapters and an enclosure with a lid. The parts are built in the browser.

There are 8 components. The relay, the terminal block and the power supply clip straight onto the rail, and the other 5 get a printed adapter.

DIN rail adapters and enclosure: what it does

Arranges 8 components on the DIN rail

The + button adds a relay, a terminal block, a power supply, an Arduino Uno R3, an ESP32-S3 Zero, a BME280 sensor, a BH1750 sensor or a fuse holder. The position on the rail is set automatically.

Builds the DIN rail and adapters

The rail is TS35: 35 mm wide and 7.5 mm hat depth per EN 60715, as long as the panel plus 10 mm at each end. Components without a rail clip get a printed adapter.

Checks the spacing and sizes the enclosure

Neighboring modules need at least 2 mm between them under the EDi Brain rules. The enclosure has 0.8 mm walls, a lid with a rim, and a size taken from the deepest and the tallest model.

Gives a parts list (BOM) and an STL to print

The BOM table lists the catalog parts and the printed parts with quantities. One STL carries the rail, the adapters, the enclosure and the lid.

When you need an Arduino, ESP32 or relay on a DIN rail

The tool covers the mechanical side of a panel.

  • A DIN rail panel for an electronics lesson

The teacher lays a relay, a terminal block and a power supply on a rail and shows the class a panel of DIN devices.

  • An Arduino or ESP32 on a DIN rail

The maker gets a printed adapter that clips onto the rail, and an enclosure sized to the boards.

  • A small panel: how long the rail is

You see whether the gap between neighbors is under 2 mm.

  • A prototype to 3D print

You download an STL with the rail, adapters, enclosure and lid, and have a BOM with the parts list.

How the spacing, rail and enclosure are worked out

Position, rail and enclosure come from the model sizes and the EDi Brain rules, and the adapter from the snap-fit formula.

  1. Position and rail

Each component goes to the right of the last one with a 2 mm minimum plus a 4 mm margin, using approximate widths: relay 29 mm, terminal block 15 mm, Arduino 70 mm. The rail spans the edges plus 10 mm at each end: 146 mm for the relay, terminal block and Arduino Uno R3.

  2. Check

For neighboring pairs the edge-to-edge gap uses the model size along the file’s X axis. Under 2 mm is a warning. FAIL appears only if a component is off the rail.

  3. Enclosure

The inner size comes from the rail and from the deepest and the tallest model, plus a 0.8 mm wall and a 0.2 mm clearance between the lid and the cavity.

The formulas and rules in the tool
Applies toFormulaMeaning
Gap between neighboring componentsd = x₂ − w₂ / 2 − (x₁ + w₁ / 2) ≥ 2 mmx is the center along the rail, w is the size of the model along the file’s X axis
Snap-fit armL = √(3 · y · t / (2 · ε)), not shorter than 9 mmy = 1.2 mm, t = 1.0 mm; ε: PLA 1.5%, PETG and ABS 3%, nylon 5%; PLA gives 10.95 mm, while at 3% and 5% it stays 9 mm (7.5 + 1.5)

DIN rail adapters from a formula: what is different

  • The numbers come from the rules

The 35 mm width, 7.5 mm hat, 2 mm gap, 0.8 mm wall, lid clearance and strain by material are read from the EDi Brain rules.

  • The adapter is calculated

The arm of the hook comes from the strain the material allows, not from a size picked by eye.

  • The models come from STEP files

The sizes for the check and the enclosure are measured from the model meshes.

What it does not do: wiring, schematics, protection

The tool sizes the panel mechanically only: there is no schematic, wiring, cable sizing or protection, and ratings are only shown. Components are not moved by hand, the panel is not saved, and the rail is TS35 only.

Position uses approximate widths while the check measures the model, so even the starting panel gives a warning. Adapters are for PLA, without screw holes, and the enclosure has no cable entries or vents. The power supply model is a stand-in. The STL has the parts in their assembled positions, not laid out for printing.

Questions about DIN rail adapters and 3D printed enclosures

How to mount Arduino on DIN rail?

With a printed adapter that clips onto the rail: the Arduino has no rail clip. The ESP32-S3, BME280, BH1750 and fuse holder get one too, which is 5 of 8 components. Adapters are for PLA, without screw holes.

How to mount ESP32 on DIN rail?

With a printed adapter that clips onto the rail: the ESP32-S3 Zero has no rail clip. The tool builds the adapter, the rail and an enclosure with a lid in one STL.

What is a DIN rail?

A DIN rail is the standard rail that electrical modules clip onto. The one in this tool is TS35: 35 mm wide with a 7.5 mm hat depth per EN 60715, as long as the panel plus 10 mm at each end.

What components does it have?

Eight: an MY4Z DC24 relay, a KF301-3P terminal block, a 24 V power supply, an Arduino Uno R3, an ESP32-S3 Zero, a BME280, a BH1750 and an ATO fuse holder.

What can I download?

One binary STL with the rail, the adapters, the enclosure and the lid, without the catalog components. The BOM is a table on screen.
