Storage rack 3D model: a beam rack or a cubby cabinet to your dimensions

Pick a beam rack or a cubby cabinet, set the dimensions and the number of levels, and get a 3D model you can explode and download as STL or 3MF. The check shows the nominal level spacing and warns about a poor proportion, but it gives no load in kilograms.

What a storage rack 3D model from this tool is

This is a free online tool from EduFacturing that builds a parametric 3D model of a rack from the dimensions you set. There are two constructions, a beam rack and a cubby cabinet, and the Custom mode chooses between them with wider limits.

The beam rack has two frames of perforated posts, braces and base plates, with beams between them and deck panels on top. The cubby cabinet is a sheet-metal box with a back, sides, base and lid, open at the front, with shelves and vertical dividers that form cells.

A beam rack or cubby cabinet as STL and 3MF

Builds a beam rack and a cubby cabinet

Beam rack: frames, beams and a deck at each level. Cubby cabinet: body, shelves and dividers. Custom mode picks one of the two and offers wider limits.

Sets the dimensions

Width, depth and height, 1 to 8 levels. The beam rack adds the post section (40 to 120 mm) and the deck thickness (10 to 50 mm); the cabinet adds 0 to 12 dividers per level and a sheet of 1.5 to 8 mm.

Checks and explodes

Shows the nominal overall size, the level spacing and the width-to-depth proportion. Three part groups switch on and off, and a slider from 0 to 100% pulls the assembly apart.

Gives a 3D model for printing

Download STL or 3MF with the visible groups in the pose shown. One of 8 materials changes the colour of the model and the material note, not the dimensions.

When you need a storage rack 3D model

A rack is easier to plan when you can see it to scale and take it apart.

  • Owner of a warehouse or workshop

Sets the dimensions and sees the nominal level spacing before ordering a steel rack.

  • Technology teacher

Explodes the model into frames, beams and decks and shows the load path: panel, beams, frame, floor.

  • Maker with a printer

Prints a scaled-down assembly for a warehouse presentation or to check how it goes together.

  • Organiser for small parts

Prints a scaled-down cubby cabinet: the shelves and dividers set the number of cells.

How the rack is built and checked

The sliders set the dimensions, a solid is built from them, and the check is calculated from the same numbers.

  1. Dimensions

The sliders set W, D, H and the number of levels n, plus the post section and deck thickness (beam rack) or the dividers and sheet thickness (cabinet).

  2. Parts

The beam rack is four perforated posts (holes every 50 mm), braces, beams and decks. The cabinet is a back, base, sides, lid, n shelves and dividers. The bodies are combined with CSG in the browser.

  3. Check

The nominal overall size and the spacing show in mm; on the beam rack the base plates stick out beyond W × D. If W / D is above 3.5 a warning appears: an intermediate frame on the beam rack, dividers on the cabinet.

  4. Explode

Most parts move away from the centre. Only the visible groups download, in the pose shown.

The rules the tool works by
Applies toFormulaMeaning
Level spacingspacing ≈ H / (n + 1)nominal, as the check shows it: at H = 2000 mm and 4 levels it is ≈ 400 mm; in the beam rack model the levels are (H − 100) / (n + 1) = 380 mm apart
ProportionW / D > 3.5 → warninga long rack: an intermediate frame on the beam rack, closer dividers on the cabinet
Cabinet cellscells = (n + 1) · (m + 1)n shelves and m dividers per level; with 3 shelves and 5 dividers, 4 · 6 = 24
Beam (teaching card)σ = M / W_sectionshown as an explanation: the tool does not calculate the load

Two constructions, an explode view and no invented load

  • Two different constructions

Separate geometry with different load paths, not one shelf with changed dimensions.

  • Numbers, with no invented load

The nominal overall size, the spacing and the proportion are numbers from the dimensions you set. No kilograms are given, because the dimensions alone do not set them.

  • A teaching card by the model

The principle, the formula and the use sit next to the model, and the calculation stays in your browser.

What it does not do

The tool does not calculate load capacity. The check describes the load path and warns about the shape, but gives no kilograms. The load depends on the beam section and the hook-to-post joint and, for the cabinet, on the sheet thickness and the divider spacing. The formula σ = M / W on the teaching card is an explanation, not a calculation.

The model is simplified: the beam rack is a single bay with four posts, the beams are solid boxes with a connector plate in place of hooks, and the base plates have no anchor holes. A printed rack is a scaled-down mock-up. A load-bearing rack is steel.

Storage rack 3D model and load capacity questions

How to get a storage rack 3D model to my dimensions?

Pick a beam rack or a cubby cabinet, set the width, depth, height and 1 to 8 levels, and download STL or 3MF.

How much weight can a shelf hold?

The tool gives no load capacity in kilograms: it describes the load path and warns about the shape. The load depends on the section, the joints and the material.

What is the difference between the beam rack and the cubby cabinet?

The beam rack is an open structure of frames, beams and decks. The cubby cabinet is a sheet-metal box with a back, sides, base and lid, open at the front, with shelves and dividers that form cells.

What does the width-to-depth warning mean?

It appears when W / D is above 3.5, so the rack is long compared with its depth. On the beam rack with D = 600 mm that is a width above 2100 mm. Add an intermediate frame to the beam rack or dividers to the cabinet.

Can I print a load-bearing rack?

No. A printed rack is a scaled-down mock-up for presentation, teaching and checking the assembly. A load-bearing rack is steel.
