Bearing size by number: 94 codes and a 3D model to print

Pick a bearing by number, for example 6205, and see the bore, outer diameter and width from a catalogue table. You also get a 3D model with rings and rolling elements, which downloads as STL or 3MF. Plain bushings are set by bore, wall and length.

What bearing size by number means

Bearing size by number is a free online tool from EduFacturing that gives 3D models of rolling bearings from catalogue dimensions, and of plain bushings. You pick a bearing by number and get a body with rings and rolling elements that downloads as STL or 3MF.

The sizes come from a BOLTS table under DIN 625-1, DIN 625-3 and DIN 5412-1; for the thrust and needle bearings the tool names no standard. The housed units (pillow block and UCFL) and five small bearings are ready CAD meshes, and only the plain bushings are set freely.

6205 bearing dimensions and other codes: what you see

Shows 14 types in 5 categories

Ball (single-row and double-row), cylindrical roller, needle and thrust bearings, plain and flanged bushings, a pillow block, a UCFL unit and 5 ready bearings: 608ZZ, 623ZZ, 624ZZ, 6803-2RS and F623ZZ.

Gives the sizes by number

27 codes for the single-row ball bearing (6000 to 6007, 6200 to 6206, 6300 to 6305, 16002 to 16007), 19 for double-row and 16 each for roller, needle and thrust. The menu gives bore, outer diameter and width.

Builds the bearing from the sizes

Ball bearings have raceways and balls; roller and needle bearings have rollers and needles. The radial bearing is open or closed with two 2Z shields. A bushing takes a bore of 3 to 40 mm, a wall of 1 to 8 mm and a length of 3 to 60 mm.

Downloads and warns

STL and 3MF are built in the browser. “Download STEP (CAD)” exists only for the pillow block and the six UCFL units. For bearings by code the check warns that a printed bearing does not replace a steel one under load and speed.

When you need bearing dimensions: seat, mock-up, lesson

A bearing goes into the model at its real size before it is bought.

  • Housing check: 6205 bearing dimensions

A designer sees whether a 6205 (Ø25ר52×15) fits the planned seat. The check also gives the fit: shaft k6/n6, housing H7.

  • Teaching model

A teacher shows the bearing from the inside and the difference between open and closed 2Z.

  • Support mock-up

Prints a pillow block or a UCFL unit to see how the shaft sits on the plate.

  • Bushing for slow motion

Sets bore, wall and length of a plain bushing and gets a warning if L/d is below 0.5.

How a bearing number gives bore, diameter and width

The bearing code gives the sizes from a table, and the tool turns them into a body. Only the bushings are set freely.

  1. Sizes by code

The code (6205, 4208, N208, 51104) gives the bore d, outer diameter D and width B from a table extracted from the BOLTS Archive.

  2. Body

The rings are built with toroidal raceways and the balls are spheres on the pitch circle. In a single-row radial bearing their number is ⌊π·Rp / (1.28·r)⌋, between 6 and 18 (Rp is the pitch circle radius, r the ball radius).

The rules the tool shows

A bearing size chart that becomes a 3D model

  • Sizes come from a table

The bore, outer diameter and width come from BOLTS under DIN and show in the code's label.

  • The bearing is modelled in full

The raceways, the balls and the two shields of the closed version show in the model.

What this bearing size tool does not calculate

The tool does not calculate load capacity, life or fits. The formula L₁₀ = (C / P)³ is on the card, but C and P come from the maker's catalogue, and k6/n6 and H7 are text in the check.

A printed bearing is a model and a mock-up. Bearing sizes are chosen by code and not set freely: only the bore, wall and length of bushings are free.

Bearing size questions: ZZ, 2RS, STEP, printed bearings

What are the dimensions of a 6205 bearing?

Bore 25 mm, outer diameter 52 mm and width 15 mm (Ø25ר52×15), from a catalogue table. For the radial bearing the check also gives the fit: shaft k6/n6, housing H7.

Which standard are the bearing sizes from?

The radial ball bearing is under DIN 625-1, the double-row under DIN 625-3, the cylindrical roller under DIN 5412-1. For the thrust bearing (series 51xxx) and the needle cage (type K) the tool names no standard.

What does 2RS bearing mean, and what is ZZ?

ZZ means metal shields and 2RS means rubber seals. In the tool 608ZZ, 623ZZ, 624ZZ and F623ZZ have shields and 6803-2RS has rubber. The radial bearing built from a code is open or closed 2Z.

Can I download STEP?

Only for the pillow block (whole, housing or insert) and the six UCFL units. For bearings by code and the five library ones you download STL or 3MF.

Can a 3D printed bearing carry loads?

Not like a steel one. Printed plastics do not replace a steel bearing under load and speed, and the model is for visualisation, mock-ups, kinematics and teaching.

Is the bearing size tool free?

Yes. Without an account it opens 3 times a day. A free account removes the limit.

The bearings tool is free. Pro opens the rest
