Graph paper generator and six more printable templates, in PDF

Pick a template kind (for example graph paper), an A4 or A3 sheet and a margin, and the tool gives you a PDF at the size of the sheet. Every sheet carries a 100 mm control line, so you can check after printing that the printer did not change the scale.

Graph paper generator: what the tool does

This graph paper generator from EduFacturing makes a PDF on an A4 or A3 sheet with graph paper, grids, writing lines, music staves or label sheets in standard formats. Every sheet has a printed control line of 100 mm.

If the line does not measure 100 mm with a ruler after printing, the page was resized and the grid under it is not reliable.

Millimeter, isometric, dot graph paper and labels: what you get

Makes graph paper and six more kinds of template

Graph paper, isometric, dot and polar grids, writing lines, music staves and label sheets. The kinds have their own steps, for example 1, 5 or 10 mm for graph paper.

Sets up the sheet: A4 or A3, margin, binding

A4 (210 × 297 mm) or A3 (297 × 420 mm), portrait or landscape, a margin of your choice (10 mm to start) and a separate binding margin, off by default and starting at 15 mm, on the left or at the top.

Puts a 100 mm control line on every sheet

The line is exactly 100 mm, with ticks at both ends, and sits in a reserved 16 mm band at the top, so it never overlaps the template. The title (up to 60 characters) is written above the printable area, in the margin.

Provides label sheets

Seven A4 formats, from 1 to 65 labels per sheet. If the grid does not fit the sheet, the tool says by how many mm it overflows instead of quietly shrinking it.

When you need printable graph paper or music staff paper

Paper is only useful if its scale is right.

  • Graph paper for drawing and sketching

Graph paper for a drawing to scale, a dot grid for sketches and an isometric grid for hand-drawing a cube or a prism.

  • Teaching sheets and music staves

A teacher prints writing lines, music staves or a polar grid for diagrams, and the whole class gets identical sheets.

  • Notebooks and binders

The binding margin leaves room for a spiral or punched holes without losing the ordinary margin.

  • Label sheets

Outlines in standard label sheet formats. Check them with a test print on plain paper before printing a full sheet.

How the sheet is calculated so it prints at true scale

It is all geometry in millimetres, turned into a PDF without rounding: 1 mm is 72 / 25.4 pt.

  1. Sheet and margin

The printable area is the sheet minus the margin and the binding margin. The top 16 mm of it is reserved for the control line, the title is written above the area, in the margin, and the template is drawn in the rest.

  2. Template

The graph paper emphasises a line every 5, 10 or 50 mm at a step of 1, 5 or 10 mm. The isometric grid is three families of lines at 90°, 30° and 150°, with neighbouring lines exactly one step apart.

  3. PDF

The page has the sheet size in points and lines have their thickness in mm. The PT Sans font is loaded from the site; if it fails, the text is transliterated to Latin and the tool says so.

  4. Check

If the printable width is under 110 mm, the 100 mm control line may not fit and a warning appears.

A 100 mm control line shows the scale is right

  • The scale is checked with a ruler

Every sheet carries a 100 mm line. You measure it and know whether the printer changed the scale, instead of guessing from how the sheet looks.

  • Labels are not shrunk

If a format does not fit, the tool says by how many mm instead of quietly scaling it.

What it does not do

The tool does not make folding nets of solids: for those there are the Sheet metal unfold and Papercraft from 3D (STL unfolder) tools. Sheets are only A4 and A3, and label sheets are A4 portrait only: there is no Letter and no free size.

The control line shows whether the sheet was resized, but it does not fix the printer: the scale is set in the print dialog. Label sizes are the publicly known ones for compatible sheets, and the number next to a format is a guide, not a guarantee. Label outlines are measured from the edge of the sheet and the margin does not move them, and with labels the A3 and landscape choices are locked. Still check with a test print.

Questions about printing graph paper at actual size

How to print graph paper at actual size?

Pick graph paper, an A4 or A3 sheet and a step of 1, 5 or 10 mm, download the PDF and print it with Actual size or 100%, not Fit to page.

Why does my printer scale a PDF, and how do I check it?

A print dialog set to Fit to page resizes the sheet. Measure the control line: if it is not 100 mm, the page was resized and the grid is not reliable.

What is isometric paper?

A grid of three families of lines at 90°, 30° and 150°, used to hand-draw a cube or a prism. Neighbouring lines are exactly one step apart.

Which graph paper types and steps are there?

Graph paper (1, 5, 10 mm), isometric (5, 10 mm), dot grid (5, 8, 10 mm), polar, writing lines (6, 7, 8, 10 mm), music staves and labels.

Is there a label template for A4 sheets?

Yes: seven A4 formats, from 1 to 65 labels per sheet.

Is the graph paper generator free?

Yes. Without an account it opens 3 times a day. With a free account there is no limit.

The print templates is free. Pro opens the rest
