What APR is and what the calculator works out

The EduFacturing loan APR calculator with fees is a free online tool for a loan or a lease: it builds a repayment schedule and works out the annual percentage rate of charge (APR) with four kinds of cost: a review fee, an origination fee, a monthly service fee and insurance. Amounts are in euro, with an approximate value in leva at 1.95583.

APR is not the monthly interest rate times twelve: with no fees a 12% nominal rate gives a 12.68% APR. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you enter is sent.

Payment, APR and schedule: what you get

Builds a repayment schedule month by month

It shows balance, payment, interest and principal, as an annuity (equal payment) or equal principal.

Works out the APR with fees

The review and origination fees are one-off and come off the amount received; the monthly fee and the insurance are added to every payment.

Compares the APR with the legal cap

The APR is checked against 5 times the statutory interest on overdue obligations (Art. 19(4)); an excess brings a warning.

Works out a lease and early repayment

In a lease the payments cover the principal down to the residual value, paid at the end and counted in the APR. For early repayment it shows the balance, the interest saved and the compensation cap.

When you need a loan calculator

Two loans with the same rate can cost different amounts because of fees.

  • Comparing offers

Enter each offer's rate and fees and compare the APR, not the rate.

  • Checking against the cap

Enter the offer's terms and check the APR against the cap.

  • Lease with a residual value

    An asset of 12,000 €, a 2,000 € down payment, a 4,000 € residual, 12%, 24 months, no fees: a payment of 322.44 € and a 4,000 € balloon.

  • Early repayment

    After month 6 of a 2,000 € loan over 24 months at 12%: balance 1,543.83 €, compensation at most 15.44 €, interest saved 150.78 €.

How the APR and the payment are calculated

Monthly interest is the nominal annual rate divided by 12. Bisection (narrowing an interval step by step) then searches for the rate r at which the present value of the payments equals the net amount received; the function is strictly decreasing, so there is one solution.

  1. Schedule and cash flow

The balance is rounded to the cent each month. At time 0 you receive the principal minus the one-off fees; each month you pay the payment, the monthly fee and the insurance, and in a lease the residual value at the end.

  2. Cap and compensation

The APR cap is 5 times the statutory interest. Compensation for early repayment is at most 1% of the balance with more than 12 months left, otherwise 0.5%; at exactly 12 the law is silent and the tool uses 0.5%.

The formulas the tool calculates by
Applies toFormulaMeaning
Annuity paymentPMT = P·r / (1 − (1 + r)^−n)P principal, r monthly rate, n months; at r = 0 the payment is P / n
Lease paymentPMT = (P − R·(1 + r)^−n)·r / (1 − (1 + r)^−n)R is the residual value paid at the end
APRAPR = (1 + r)^12 − 1r is the monthly rate at which the discounted payments equal the net amount received

Fees inside the APR

  • Fees enter the APR

For 2,000 € over 24 months at 12%, the default fees lift the APR from 12.68% to 17.45%.

  • A lease carries its residual value

The balloon is in the APR and in the total for the term: for the lease above and the same fees, the total without the down payment is 11,826.59 €.

What it does not do

The tool calculates a standard loan with a constant nominal rate; it does not cover a variable rate, a grace period, deferred payments or bundled products.

The default statutory rate follows the date: 10.15% for 1 January to 30 June 2026 (a cap of 50.75%) and 10.40% for 1 July to 31 December 2026 (ECB 2.40% from 17.06.2026 plus 8 points), a cap of 52.00%. For after 31 December 2026 the tool does not have the figure yet: it then shows a warning, and you enter the current rate under “Advanced”. From 1 January 2026 it is the ECB main refinancing rate plus 8 points (Decree No 426/2014 as amended by Decree No 347/29.12.2025, State Gazette No 115/2025). The tool is not legal advice.

Questions about APR and early repayment

What is APR on a loan?

APR is the annual percentage rate of charge: what the loan costs per year including fees and insurance, not just the interest.

How to calculate APR on a loan?

APR is solved as an internal rate of return: find the monthly rate r at which the payments, discounted at it, equal the net amount received. Then APR = (1 + r)^12 − 1.

What is the difference between the interest rate and the APR?

The rate is only the nominal figure, while the APR also includes fees and insurance. For 2,000 € over 24 months at 12%, the APR is 12.68% with no fees and 17.45% with the default fees: 15 € and 25 € once and 2 € a month.

What is an annuity and what is equal principal?

An annuity is an equal payment every month; equal principal is an equal part of the principal and a falling payment. For 2,000 € over 24 months at 12%: an annuity pays 94.15 € (259.51 € of interest); equal principal pays 103.33 € down to 84.24 € (250.00 € of interest).

What is the legal cap on the APR in Bulgaria?

Under Art. 19(4) of the Consumer Credit Act the APR may not exceed 5 times the statutory interest on overdue obligations: 10.15% for 1 January to 30 June 2026, a cap of 50.75%, and 10.40% for 1 July to 31 December 2026, a cap of 52.00%.

How much can early repayment of a loan cost?

Under Art. 32(4) of the Act, at a fixed interest rate, the compensation is at most 1% of the amount repaid with more than a year left, and 0.5% with less. Under paragraph 5 the lender may ask for more only if it proves a larger loss.
