What tools you need for a workshop
A workshop tools list works best in the right order: first the tools without which the work is unsafe or poor, then the rest. Instrumentarium from EduFacturing builds one. You choose one of six areas (3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting and engraving, welding and sheet metal, casting and moulding, woodworking), then a technology, a level, an activity and a budget.
Each tool is mandatory or optional and has three brands with a model and a note. Behind it is a reference with specifications, types, size tables, standards and safety notes, where they exist.
The catalog is part of the app, so nothing is uploaded. There are no prices.
A workshop tools list: what you get
Picks tools by technology, level and activity
Technology (4 per area), level (4) and activity (5 per area) filter the tools, while the budget (3 tiers) picks the lead brand. A step with no choice does not restrict the list, and mandatory tools come first. Every step after the area can be skipped.
Shows which tools are mandatory
115 of 491 tools are mandatory, such as the auto-darkening welding mask and the gloves for resin work. To switch off a mandatory tool, the app asks you to confirm.
Gives three brands and a reference for every tool
Each tool has a budget, a mid-range and a no-compromise brand with a model and a note. Its page has the tabs Preview, Specifications, Types, Dimensions, Selection, Usage and Brands, when there is data for them.
Gives an order list as a PDF or CSV
On screen it is grouped by category, with the columns tool, necessity, lead brand and alternatives. The CSV has 8 columns: category, tool, necessity, lead brand, model, tier and two alternatives; the PDF is a text list. It can also be copied as text. There are no quantities or prices.
When you need a workshop tools list
A tools list helps before a purchase, when it is not clear what is needed and what can wait.
What to buy for a new workshop
A hobbyist with a first printer or mill picks the “Beginner / hobby” level and sees what to buy, with the mandatory items first.
Ordering only what is missing
Someone who already owns part of the equipment unticks “Included” on what they have and orders only the rest.
A kit for a technology lesson
A teacher has a student put together a kit for an area and explain why each tool is mandatory.
Protective gear for welding and resin
For welding or resin, the reference gives the protection and its standard, for example EN 379 for the auto-darkening filters of a welding mask.
How the tools are picked for your technology
There is no price formula: the selection filters the catalog on three questions (technology, level, activity) and sorts it, while the budget picks the brand.
Area
You choose one of six areas. Each has its own catalog: 178, 77, 60, 63, 53 and 60 tools.
Filter
A tool is included if it matches the technology, the level and the activity. Technologies and activities can be several, the level is one.
Order
Mandatory tools come first, then optional ones. A tool removed with the “Included” checkbox is not in the list.
Brand
The lead brand is the one at the chosen budget, and the other two are alternatives. The budget does not remove tools.
| Applies to | Formula | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Is the tool included | technology AND level AND activity | a step with no choice is skipped; with several choices on one step, one match is enough |
| Order in the list | mandatory, then optional | within a group the catalog order is kept |
| Lead brand | brand tier = budget | budget, mid-range or no compromise; the other two are alternatives |
| Order list | category, then mandatory, then optional | on screen: tool, necessity, lead brand, alternatives; the CSV adds category, model and tier |
Mandatory tools and three brands
A different list for a beginner and for a professional studio
By level alone in the 3D printing area, with the other steps empty: 109 of 178 tools for a hobby and 172 for a professional studio. The same tool is in one list and missing from the other.
Mandatory is set apart from optional
115 tools are mandatory, and the other 376 are optional and the first place to cut on a tight budget.
A reference behind every tool
All 491 have a reference, and 259 have size tables as well: thread and tap drill diameters under DIN 13-1 for taps, clamping ranges under DIN 6499-1 for ER collets, grades under DIN EN ISO 3650 for gauge blocks.
There are no prices or quantities. The catalog is part of the app and does not follow the market, so the brands are a starting point, not a ranking.
The selection follows rules, not your machine: it does not check whether a tool fits a particular printer or mill. The size tables are for reference.
Questions about workshop tools
What tools do you need in a workshop?
It depends on the technology and the level. Instrumentarium builds a list from a catalog of 491 tools for your area, technology, level, activity and budget. Each tool is mandatory or optional and has three brands.
What tools do I need for 3D printing?
For 3D printing the catalog has 178 tools in 14 categories. By level alone: 109 of 178 are for a hobby and 172 for a professional studio.
How is a tool marked mandatory?
It is marked on each tool in the catalog: 115 of 491 are mandatory. If you try to switch one off, the app asks you to confirm.
