3D Printing Material Comparison

PLA, PETG, ABS, nylon, TPU, PC - side by side with 20+ properties

Which material is "stronger"? Which one survives 100°C? Which is cheapest for hobby? This tool puts up to 4 filaments/resins/powders in one table with 20+ properties - no interpretation, just facts.

Available with the Pro plan (15 EUR per month). The printed book includes 3 months of Pro.

Key features

Up to 4 materials at once

Pick from 60+ materials - filaments (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, PA-CF, TPU…), resins, powders (PA12, TPU powder).

20+ properties

Tensile strength, elongation at break, hardness, heat deflection temperature (HDT), UV resistance, chemical resistance, price/kg, print temperature, speed, bed adhesion.

Color coding

Green = better, red = worse for each column. You instantly see which material beats the rest for a specific criterion.

Real tests

Data from in-house testing at ART PRINTING 3D LTD (60+ materials) plus manufacturer TDS sheets.

Recommended applications

For each material/application pair - when to pick it and when not to.

Export PDF

Download the comparison as PDF for client, report or presentation.

How it works

  1. 1Pick up to 4 materials from a list of 60+ options.
  2. 2See a table with 20+ rows of properties, color-coded.
  3. 3Click a property for detailed explanation (e.g. "HDT" - what it means for the final part).
  4. 4Save to library or download PDF.

Who it's for

Engineer picking material

Part will sit at 90°C - which filament holds without warping? Compare PETG vs ASA vs PC.

Print service

Client asks "does PLA survive rain?" - give them a table with real numbers, not vague talk.

Hobby 3D printer user

Which material for first attempt with TPU? Compare variants and see which is most forgiving.

Teacher

Course material - real numbers for the differences between PLA, ABS and PETG.

Frequently asked

How many materials are included?

60+ materials as of 2026-05:35 filaments, 15 resins, 8 powders, 4 specials (waxes, ceramics).

Are brand variants included?

No - we group by type (e.g. PLA, PLA+, PLA-CF), not by brand. For specific brands see Material Database.

Where do the numbers come from?

In-house tests (12+ metrics for 60+ materials) + manufacturer TDS sheets. When they disagree - our tests win.

How do I get access?

A physical-book code gives Pro access to all instruments for 90 days; the PDF edition - for 30 days.

How often is it updated?

Monthly. New materials come with a 2-week delay after they hit the market.

Want full access to all 148 instruments?

The Big Book of 3D Printing includes 90 days of Pro access to every instrument with the physical book's code - 30 days with the ebook. Calculators, wizards, comparisons, generators, and more.
