Health Radar: what the NHIF pays each Bulgarian hospital, by year

ENBG

What the Bulgarian National Health Insurance Fund paid each hospital, taken from its own monthly reports. The figures are exactly as the fund published them: nothing here is recalculated.

How it works

Hospital names appear exactly as they are recorded in the register of the National Health Insurance Fund. They are not translated: a translated name is no longer the name under which the hospital is registered, and it would not be found there. Everything the radar writes itself is in English.

Three steps from a hospital name to the amount it was paid, with nothing blended together.

1. Find the hospital

The search covers 445 medical establishments across 28 regional health funds, by name or by provider code.

2. Pick the type of payment

The five types stay separate rather than merged into one figure: under the National Framework Contract, for medical devices, for oncology medicines, under the COVID methodology, Article 7a, under Article 5 of the health budget act. Merging them is the most common mistake made when reading these reports.

3. Read the year

For each year the radar shows the LAST published report, which is cumulative from the start of that year. Adding the monthly reports together does not give the annual figure; it gives roughly twelve times it.

What is inside

The figures come from the health fund's own monthly reports, with no recalculation and no scoring.

How to read a figure

Up to the report of 30 June 2026 the fund had paid 1 610 698 263 BGN to 445 medical establishments. The largest figure in that period belongs to УМБАЛ Св. Георги ЕАД Пловдив: 68 244 836 BGN. The size of a figure follows the size of the hospital and the types of care it holds a contract for, so two figures compare only within the same payment type and the same period.

Oncology medicines and medical devices are reported as payment types separate from activity under the National Framework Contract. The sum of all types for one hospital is not its income from beds and staff; it is what was paid on different grounds.

This radar is open to everyone, no account needed. It is one of a set of more than a hundred engineering tools on EduFacturing: calculators, calibration helpers, slicer references, defect diagnosis, CAD utilities and printer configurators. Frequently asked questions

Where does this data come from?

From the Bulgarian National Health Insurance Fund itself. The figures are taken from its own published monthly reports at nhif.bg and are shown exactly as the fund published them. Nothing here is recalculated.

Are the figures for a whole year, or year to date?

The published reports are cumulative to a date. For each year this tool shows the LAST published report of that year, not the sum of the monthly ones. Adding the monthly reports together would multiply the figure roughly twelve times, which is the mistake this tool is built to avoid.

Why is 2018 missing?

Because it is missing from the published reports. The tool shows what the fund published, and for 2018 it published nothing that survives in the current archive.

Does a large figure mean a hospital is wasteful?

No. A large figure means a large hospital treating many patients under many clinical pathways. The tool shows what was paid, not whether it should have been. It is a record, not a judgement.

What currency are the amounts in?

Bulgarian lev, as published by the fund. No conversion is applied, because converting would introduce a rate that the source never used.

Can I look up a single hospital?

Yes. Type any part of the name in the search box and the table filters as you type. You can also narrow by year, by type of payment and by regional health fund.
